About the West Virginia Organizer

WFP is building a national party of the left. We’re investing in building the base our country needs. WFP Organizers are part of a cadre of skilled organizers who help us build membership and elect transformative leaders to office. The West Virginia Organizer is responsible for recruiting, engaging, and motivating the WFP base by identifying and developing volunteers to take on the role of team leaders. The Organizer will build alliances with other organizations that can influence decision-makers.

At WFP, we are working to develop organizers who can successfully integrate electoral, relational, and digital organizing. WFP Organizers must also be able to represent the organization at coalition tables such as the WV New Jobs Coalition, WV Climate Alliance, or the WV United table. Organizers are expected to have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to implement those skills using tech tools.

This is a temporary position currently scheduled to end in December 2021. We are also hiring an Apprentice Organizer. Please visit that job description if you believe that role would be better suited to your experience level.

  • Organize digital events such as phone banks, text banks, welcome gatherings, town halls, and public endorsement events
  • When it becomes safe to do so, initiate regular in-person membership meetings, trainings, mass meetings, canvasses/door knocks, text parties, house parties, and other tactics that gather supporters and members, help elect WFP candidates, and build the party
  • Work day to day with key leaders (institutional leaders and rank and file, individual supporters and members, and movement leaders) teaching, coaching, mentoring, and training them, and helping to build their commitment to WFP
  • Assist with the ongoing work of fundraising including but not limited to raising money from membership, individual donors, institutional contributions, and national and local grants
  • Evaluate changing conditions and modify organizing plans accordingly

  • Recruit, engage, and motivate the WFP base in coalition with aligned organizations by identifying and developing volunteers to take on the role of team leaders
  • Build a team of local leaders to ensure all gatherings have strong attendance (benchmarks to be assigned) and support a culture grounded in creating radically welcoming and engaging spaces
  • Experiment with engagement strategies to reach out to potential supporters and current volunteers, move them up the WFP ladder of engagement, and deepen their leadership.
  • Track the actions of volunteers, supporters, and members and their leadership development in WFP’s CRM (EveryAction) and Mobilize.us
